The Embedded Systems Engineer at DCS Corp will be accountable for the design of electrical and electronic components and subsystems, including firmware development, alongside the integration of these systems into avionics and maritime platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement embedded software solutions.
  • Collaborate with project and engineering teams to create software builds and support software development and verification plans.
  • Translate software architecture requirements into functional code and develop necessary interfaces.
  • Program software modules and functional blocks.
  • Conduct firmware development, implementation, and testing on various avionics components within the TacMo product line.
  • Complete engineering change notice documentation to manage both legacy and new components.
  • Analyze and review data to ensure systems meet specifications and design requirements, planning and tracking component validation.
  • Investigate product anomalies, clearly identifying issues and proposing solutions.
  • Address customer and fleet anomaly reports or inquiries.
  • Maintain and exceed industry-leading quality and reliability standards for all components in accordance with DoD policies.
  • Draft product specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICD), design documents, and lower-level requirement specifications, often collaborating with private industry vendors and contractors.
  • Engage in design and technical readiness reviews for TacMo products and services.
  • Support program and milestone reviews by preparing briefing materials and presenting technical elements as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory due to the sensitive nature of customer-related requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, along with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in embedded software development.
  • Familiarity with programming "bare metal" firmware for controllers.
  • Proficient in C programming.
  • Experience in documenting software designs and developing software across various platforms, including Windows, Linux, and RTOS such as FreeRTOS.
  • Knowledge of hardware-level communications protocols, including Ethernet, USB, CAN, SPI, and I2C.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment, demonstrating resourcefulness, adaptability, and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of current wireless technologies and protocols.
  • Experience with Integrated Circuit (IC) circuit boards and printed circuit board development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning and tracking abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in the design and release of avionics systems, including electrical components, software, wire harnesses, and electronic controls.
  • Familiarity with Matlab/Simulink and embedded toolboxes is advantageous.
  • Experience with TI processors and TI Code Composer.
  • Knowledge of embedded real-time systems design and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of DoD guidelines for encryption and security for Data in Motion.
  • Previous experience with DoD command control and communication systems.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience programming ARM processors and associated development tools.
  • Experience with brass boards and testing newly developed boards.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet layer 3 and cybersecurity is a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with version control tools like Git, SVN, or similar.
  • Experience with Qt and QWidget GUI software development or similar tools.
  • Experience with software utilizing communication transport protocols such as UDP/TCP.
  • Experience with J1939 CAN bus hardware and software interfacing.
  • Experience with code checking, testing, and build automation tools, such as cppcheck, cpputest, googletest, and Jenkins is a plus.
