Position Summary
The Patient Access Specialist I plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming environment for patients and their families. This position is responsible for managing outpatient scheduling and registration processes for all patients, ensuring that accurate data and documentation are collected to facilitate proper billing.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the initial point of contact for patients and external customers, addressing inquiries and scheduling requests.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and their staff to gather necessary information regarding diagnoses and procedures.
- Utilize scheduling software to coordinate appointments based on physician orders.
- Conduct interviews with patients to collect essential scheduling and registration details, either in person or via phone.
- Handle incoming calls, exercising discretion to ensure patients are scheduled for the appropriate services.
- Accurately gather and input demographic, financial, and clinical information into the electronic health record system.
- Provide comprehensive information to other healthcare providers and stakeholders utilizing patient data.
- Review registration accounts for accuracy to ensure proper reimbursement for services rendered.
- Secure necessary signatures on consent forms and other important documents as per hospital policies.
- Explain financial responsibilities to patients, negotiating payment arrangements and collecting copayments when applicable.
- Verify insurance benefits and obtain necessary authorizations for patient visits.
- Ensure all required documentation is properly scanned and stored in the patient’s electronic health record.
- Participate in cross-training for additional functions within the department as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- An Associate Degree is preferred.
- A Bachelor’s Degree is also preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of customer service experience is required.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in registration and/or billing within a healthcare environment is preferred.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), attention to detail, organizational abilities, and multitasking skills are essential.
- Basic computer proficiency is required.

Additional Information
