Job Summary

Vidant Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist I to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures.
  • Understand method principles, perform quality control & calibrations, perform preventive maintenance, and analyze results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.
  • Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department.
  • Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
  • Communicate test results in a timely manner.
  • Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
  • Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.
  • Works alternate shifts as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelor's degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree is also acceptable.
  • For non-CLS/MT degrees, one year of experience in a clinical laboratory is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.
Work Environment
  • 40 hours a week.
  • Saturday - Monday (7 am - 7 pm).
