Are you an enthusiastic Engineer eager to lead efforts in ensuring the quality and adherence of materials utilized in the North Carolina Highway System? If so, we invite you to become a vital part of our dynamic Materials and Tests Unit.
About Us:
Our Unit is committed to establishing acceptance criteria for materials and manufactured products, ensuring they meet the highest standards and perform as intended. We play a pivotal role in upholding the integrity of the North Carolina Highway System, in alignment with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Regulations.
Your Role:
As the Lead Engineer for the Material Compliance Program, you will:
- Lead and Manage: Supervise a team of engineers and consultants engaged in the material certification process for various projects statewide.
- Ensure Compliance: Review and certify projects funded by Federal and State resources, ensuring comprehensive documentation to validate the quality of essential materials and products.
- Conduct Project Audits: Collaborate closely with project engineers to guarantee all documentation is accounted for through thorough project audits.
- Innovate and Monitor: Design, implement, and oversee the progress of a newly established Project Audit Program.
- Strong Communicator: Exceptional communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficient in computer skills to manage documentation and audits.
- Organized and Multitasking Pro: Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Willing to Travel: Flexibility to travel for meetings and site visits as required.

Applicants must demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, and procedures related to technician assessments and the sampling and testing of construction materials.
- Understanding of various construction materials properties, specifications, quality assurance concepts, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Experience in effective communication with various internal and external customers regarding inspection, sampling, testing, certification, and quality assurance programs.
- Ability to navigate within relevant databases, including performing queries and utilizing this data effectively.
Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
