Job Summary

The Principal Electrical Engineer will oversee and lead major electrical engineering projects, utilizing sound engineering practices to ensure successful project execution. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to train and guide junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and lead teams of professional engineers and other engineering personnel to conduct electrical engineering studies
  • Design complex electrical systems for water and wastewater projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards
  • Prepare contract documents, review consultants' reports, and review contractors' submittals
  • Plan, organize, and oversee multi-disciplinary engineering activities, including electrical design, construction, and maintenance
  • Consult with internal divisions, manufacturers, suppliers, consultants, and contractors to ensure project success
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults and prepare reports on electrical design, construction, maintenance, and operation issues
  • Develop and revise design guidelines, equipment criteria, construction standards, and specifications for electrical equipment and services
  • Participate in the formulation of long-range facility plans and system improvement projects
  • Lead and train senior electrical engineers, preparing them for leadership roles
  • Prepare electrical cost estimates for in-house engineering projects and participate in the general preparation of project budget estimates
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 6+ years of electrical engineering experience, with 2+ years of electrical engineering design experience and 1+ year of experience in planning and directing electrical engineering projects
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver's permit within 90 days of hire or transfer
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of electrical engineering experience with industrial-type facilities, particularly water or wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
