Dietetic Technician, DTR

The University of Miami Department of Outpatient Oncology is seeking a full-time Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) to work hybrid at Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami. The incumbent will provide clinical assistance to the Registered Dietitian (RD) and assist with clinical nutrition care for patients, collecting basic nutritionally relevant data to identify patients' nutritional risk level and scheduling oncology patients to be seen by dietitians, depending on their nutritional risk.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct screening of patients to identify those who are at risk for malnutrition or require nutrition interventions based on established protocols.
- Triage patients and determine appropriate level of nutrition intervention needed, such as a registered dietitian (RD) assessment, nutrition education, or follow-up monitoring.
- Schedule and coordinate appointments for patients to see the registered dietitian (RD), as needed.
- Communicate with patients and their families regarding nutrition-related questions and concerns, as well as instructions on preparation for the RD assessment or visit.
- Conduct initial assessments of patients' nutritional status and provide basic nutrition education and guidance as needed.
- Collaborate with dietitians and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive optimal care and support during their cancer journey.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care in medical records, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes and departmental achievements.
- Associate degree or higher in dietetics or a related field.
- Board Certification and State Licensure: Diet Technician, Registered (DTR).
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy, particularly in the oncology setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with electronic medical record systems and Microsoft Office.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
