Position Overview:
The Process Safety Management Engineer at AMVAC Chemical plays a crucial role in the chemical manufacturing sector, focusing on process engineering and the implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) protocols. This position encompasses the initiation, troubleshooting, and production of a variety of chemical products.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assume comprehensive responsibility for all aspects of the OSHA PSM standard and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) regulations.
- Collaborate on capital and process enhancement initiatives.
- Partner with plant leadership and the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team to ensure that process documentation is accurate, reviewed, and accessible to comply with corporate, local, and federal guidelines.

Job Duties:
- Provide technical assistance and optimize operations through effective troubleshooting and enhancement of manufacturing processes (both batch and continuous).
- Support the PSM systems within the plant; organize PSM audits and ensure adherence to regulations.
- Coordinate PSM activities with Process Unit leaders and engage in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
- Monitor PHA compliance, lead evaluations, and manage PHA reporting.
- Oversee Risk Management to guarantee compliance with USEPA RMP and CALARP regulations.
- Assist in the planning and reporting of Emergency Response strategies.
- Track and communicate Corrective Action responses and recommendations across various organizational levels.
- Seek opportunities to enhance production efficiency, yield, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), overseeing simulation and design processes.
- Generate engineering documentation for the sizing of process equipment, including pumps, control valves, and relief valves.
- Assist in the selection and specification of instrumentation; contribute to capital projects and plant commissioning.
- Troubleshoot processing, quality, or equipment issues as they arise.
- Collaborate with the Research and Development team to translate new process designs into production and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Review equipment approval drawings and vendor documentation from other disciplines.
- Create specifications for major equipment, including reactors and distillation columns, and perform hydraulic calculations.
- Conduct heat exchange equipment design and analysis.
- Model physical properties for a wide range of fluids and mixtures.
- Prepare technical reports and campaign summaries, including capital project estimates.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations, as well as company policies and directives.
- Undertake additional assignments as directed by management.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (BS ChE) is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a PSM-regulated chemical manufacturing environment with a comprehensive understanding of plant operations.
- Expertise in PSM, including experience with all 14 elements of Process Safety Management.
- At least 2 years of experience managing PHA methodologies in a specialty chemical manufacturing context.
- Familiarity with Process Design, P&IDs, and Heat Exchange systems.
- Experience conducting PSM/PHA/RMP audits and ensuring compliance.
- Proficiency in Delta V or similar software and hydraulic calculation tools.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot process equipment and instrumentation, with a focus on predictive and preventative maintenance.
- A successful track record of teamwork and independent work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and tracking.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to pass a post-offer background check and pre-employment physical examination.
