This role operates Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm, with no weekend or holiday commitments.

POSITION OVERVIEW
This role demands a profound level of technical expertise and the application of that expertise to departmental testing, clinical significance, and intricate problem-solving capabilities.

This position is situated within client facilities and involves significant client engagement.

This role acts as a departmental resource and is accountable for aiding in departmental adherence to all relevant laboratory accrediting agency and regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Responsibilities are executed in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as applicable professional benchmarks.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Executes all duties of Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) as outlined by the department, demonstrating a high level of proficiency. Oversees operational leadership and workflow management for the section/shift. Integrates extensive technical knowledge and clinical relevance into daily departmental activities. Responsible for resolving complex technical, computer, interdepartmental, and quality-related issues.

Under the guidance of the Supervisor and/or Technical Director, accountable for the execution of system technical initiatives within their area of responsibility.

Provides on-site supervision (determining schedules, managing daily workflow, and contributing to assessments or disciplinary actions) in the absence of the section supervisor.

Emphasizes quality by reviewing records and ensuring adherence to all quality control and assurance protocols. Guarantees that quality control and instrumentation maintenance documentation meets the standards set by accrediting and licensing bodies.

Assists the Supervisor, Administrative and Technical Directors, and Technical Specialist in the rollout of new QC/QA policies and ongoing quality enhancement programs in line with the Quality System.

Actively participates in departmental and LSA/SQL System quality assurance initiatives. Monitors and ensures compliance with accrediting agency and regulatory standards for the laboratory. Engages actively in preparations for on-site accreditation evaluations. 3.

Identifies opportunities for improvement and contributes to enhancing the financial performance of the department and the SQL/LSA System to reduce costs, boost productivity, and enhance service quality.

Monitors inventory and escalates related issues for timely resolution. Aids in cost analysis models. 4.

Participates in basic personnel management, including involvement in recruitment, training, development, and coaching under the direction of the Supervisor or appropriate Director.

Aids in the orientation, training, and competency assessment of new employees. Actively participates in implementing and ensuring staff compliance with competency program requirements. Self-motivated and proactive in seeking opportunities to contribute to departmental projects.

Coordinates and engages in at least two special projects annually within the department or SQL/LSA System, alongside other miscellaneous departmental responsibilities.

Acts as a communication liaison for on-site and System-related issues. Facilitates access to other System resources when necessary. Collaborates closely with on-site management to integrate the area into broader on-site activities. Engages with colleagues emphasizing teamwork and a commitment to customer service. Demonstrates mentorship and coaching abilities, fostering a constructive environment that promotes learning and development. Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
DIRECT REPORTS: None
MATRIX OR INDIRECT REPORTS: Medical Lab Scientist (MLS), Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Clinical Lab Assistants, Phlebotomists.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must demonstrate personal maturity and accountability.
Exceptional reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
Effective communication in both oral and written formats sufficient to demonstrate understanding.
Ability to perform detailed tasks; manage frequent interruptions, multitask, solve problems, and retain information.
Ability to follow directions and assimilate instructions promptly.
Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational skills.
Basic computer proficiency.

Must exhibit skills in exceptional customer service, achieve favorable performance evaluations, and pass on-site competency assessments as defined by the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
OR have successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist. Military candidates must be high school graduates or equivalent.
Five (5) years of experience in nonwaived testing in the designated specialty/sub-specialty area.
