Night Shift (United States of America) Sentara Heart Hospital, situated within the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital campus, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Surgical ICU

This is a full-time night shift role.

$20,000 Sign-on Bonus and Relocation Assistance available for Qualified Candidates

About Sentara Norfolk General Hospital: It is recognized as one of only five Level 1 trauma centers in Virginia, housing the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance and being the region's first Magnet hospital, along with a nationally ranked heart program at the Sentara Heart Hospital. The facility is part of the Eastern Virginia Medical Campus, which serves as the primary teaching institution. Sentara Norfolk General and the Heart Hospital provide Transplant Services for Heart, Kidney, and Pancreas. We are a Certified Stroke Center and the only Level 3 Epilepsy Center in the vicinity.

Unit Overview:
20 Bed cardiac surgical ICU
Nurses typically manage 1-2 patients on this unit, depending on acuity levels.

Nurses provide care for patients who have undergone various open-heart surgeries, including CABG, valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support devices such as the Total Artificial Heart and ECMO, along with various lung surgeries.

Nurses are responsible for managing critically ill patients requiring intensive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple drug infusions, IABP therapy, and CRRT.

Educational Requirements:

Candidates must possess a Diploma RN, Associate Degree RN, Bachelor's Degree RN, or Master's Degree RN.

All Direct Care RNs are required to obtain BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

RN License in Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.

Experience Requirements: 1 year of IMCU, 2 years of Med/Surg experience, or ICU experience is preferred.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering a competent level of nursing care, as demonstrated through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) form the foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses the clinical knowledge and skills necessary to meet the standards required by specific clinical areas.

BSN or MSN is preferred. The RN must meet and maintain any requirements defined by specific specialties; Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire. Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire. All Direct Care RNs are required to have BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
