Columbia, Maryland, United States HealthCare Resolution Services Full time

The Infection Control Specialist (ICS) plays a crucial role in safeguarding the facility from healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) by implementing strategies to identify and isolate infection sources, thereby minimizing the transmission of infectious agents.

The ICS diligently gathers, evaluates, and interprets health-related data to design, execute, assess, and share effective public health initiatives.

The ICS is also responsible for conducting educational sessions and training programs for healthcare personnel, ensuring they are well-informed about best practices in infection control.

Key Responsibilities: The ICS oversees the development and assessment of the facility's infection control program. This includes ensuring that the program aligns with the standards and guidelines set forth by relevant professional organizations, regulatory bodies, and governmental agencies. The ICS reviews pertinent public health matters to incorporate into practice, acts as a consultant and resource for all facility staff regarding infection control concerns, collaborates with other healthcare professionals both within and outside the organization, and implements educational initiatives focused on infection prevention. The ICS systematically collects and analyzes data related to healthcare-associated infections using epidemiological principles and statistical techniques to identify patterns and risk factors. Furthermore, the ICS is often tasked with reporting HAI and quality data to meet various facility, county, state, and federal reporting obligations. The ICS integrates principles of fiscal responsibility into their practice and advocates for the standards of advanced professional practice.

Primary Duties: The ICS conducts regular rounds, engages with staff to discuss and monitor infection control practices, gathers infection data from various departments, maintains detailed records for each case of healthcare-associated infection, investigates outbreaks, trains staff on the implementation of infection control measures, examines incidents of infections and reports them to the appropriate personnel, and ensures the availability of necessary supplies for infection control activities.
