Role Responsibilities

Job Summary for Emergency Services Technician

As an Emergency Services Technician at Fairview Health Services, you will support the Emergency Department staff with various tasks, enhance patient flow, assist with transport and comfort, and help maintain an organized and clean unit.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

  • Transporting Patients : Safely move patients using wheelchairs and carts.
  • Providing Assistance : Help patients with mobility and positioning.
  • Effective Communication : Relay any patient or family observations and concerns to registered nurses.
  • Timely Response : Quickly respond to patient call lights and requests.
  • Upholding Patient Dignity : Ensure respect for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Adapting Procedures : Perform tasks with necessary adaptations based on patients' ages and developmental stages.
  • Specimen Management : Collect ordered specimens from patients and transport them as needed.
  • Procedure Compliance : Follow accurate procedures consistently.
  • Assisting in Resuscitation : Provide support during resuscitation efforts.
  • Nurse Support Role : Assist nurses with various patient care activities.

Documentation:

  • Recording Patient Care Activities : Document patient care activities and procedures clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner on nursing records.

Unit Maintenance and Supplies:

  • Restocking Supplies : Ensure rooms, supplies, and carts are adequately stocked.
  • Cleaning Duties : Assist with cleaning patient rooms between visits.
  • Checklist Management : Complete room and cart checklists as required.
  • Quality Assurance : Conduct quality control checks on designated equipment and complete necessary checklists.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Licensure/Certification:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) : Certification required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.

AND ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Current EMT or ERT certification : Required upon hire.
  2. Current Paramedic Certification : Required upon hire.
  3. Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry : Required upon hire.
  4. Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program : Completion of one semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  5. Six months of recent direct patient care experience : In an acute care, long-term care, or home care setting.
  6. Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program.
  7. LPN licensure upon hire : This licensure does not need to be maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Previous Emergency Room experience : 1 or more years in relevant roles.
  • Current CNA or NST experience : 1 or more years.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Paramedic, EMT, ERT, LPN, CNA, PCA.
