Position TitleSenior Director, Sourcing and Supply Chain
Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Sourcing and Supply Chain to lead our procurement and supply chain functions. This individual will be responsible for driving material cost reductions, improving efficiencies, and ensuring alignment with research priorities and operational goals.
Responsibilities and Duties- Lead the transformation of sourcing and supply chain functions to drive material cost reductions and improve efficiencies.
- Develop and execute institution-wide procurement strategies to support life sciences research.
- Foster collaboration with internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and implement efficient, automated procurement processes.
- Oversee the seamless flow of research materials and ensure cost savings and operational efficiency.
- Provide leadership in data-driven decision-making, leveraging market research and internal data to inform sourcing strategies and improve supplier relationships.
- Champion supplier diversity, sustainability, and ethical sourcing practices in alignment with institutional goals and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee contract negotiations, risk assessments, and compliance audits to ensure procurement processes and supplier relationships meet industry standards.
- Mentor and develop the sourcing and supply chain team, ensuring staff are equipped with the necessary skills to meet the complex demands of a life sciences research institution.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or a related field, and 10+ years of progressive experience in sourcing, procurement, and supply chain management with a focus on scientific sourcing and procurement in a regulated industry such as biomedical or life sciences.
The candidate should have a proven track record of leading large-scale procurement transformations, particularly in scientific buying and the optimization of supply chains to support research. Experience with academic and/or non-profit institutions is preferred, and expertise in strategic sourcing, procurement, and supplier relationship management is essential.
Preferred CertificationsCertified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or Lean Six Sigma certification is preferred.
Work EnvironmentThis is an on-campus position requiring 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.
CompensationThe expected hiring range for this position is $190,000 to $228,000/annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
