About Us:
At Neurocrine Biosciences, we foster a robust, inclusive, and positive workplace culture rooted in our shared mission and values. Our commitment is to excel in our field while prioritizing the well-being of our team and the individuals we serve - to alleviate suffering for those facing significant challenges with limited options.
Our Mission:
Neurocrine Biosciences stands at the forefront of neuroscience-focused biopharmaceuticals, driven by a singular aim: to alleviate suffering for individuals with pressing needs and few alternatives. We are devoted to the discovery and development of transformative therapies for patients grappling with under-addressed neurological, neuroendocrine, and neuropsychiatric conditions. Our diverse portfolio encompasses FDA-approved therapies for tardive dyskinesia, chorea related to Huntington's disease, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids, alongside a promising pipeline featuring multiple candidates in mid- to late-phase clinical trials across our primary therapeutic domains. For over thirty years, we have harnessed our unique insights into neuroscience and the intricate connections between brain and body systems to address complex health issues. We are relentless in our pursuit of innovative treatments to alleviate the burden of debilitating diseases, as we believe in the power of courageous science.
Role Overview:
Utilize a wide range of technologies to design and validate biomarker assays that confirm drug target engagement, elucidate mechanisms of action, and assess patient responses. Work collaboratively with internal pre-clinical and clinical teams, as well as external collaborators, to implement translational biomarker strategies for drug development initiatives. A strong technical foundation in immunoassays for protein quantification and enzyme activity measurement in biological samples, including biofluids, is essential. A keen interest in laboratory-based assay development, validation, and pre-clinical sample evaluation is highly desirable. Experience in proteomics and/or a background in neurodegenerative disorders will be advantageous._
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and execute robust clinical biomarker assays tailored for specific purposes.
- Identify and assess new technologies to enhance evolving translational biomarker strategies.
- Demonstrate the ability to conduct laboratory work independently and manage the outsourcing of studies to contract research organizations.
- Facilitate the transition of biomarker assays from basic research to clinical application by providing technical expertise on assay validation.
- Act as a subject matter expert in immunoassay development and validation, collaborating with project teams, biomarker leaders, clinical operations, and regulatory affairs to implement these assays in clinical trials.
- Partner with external academic and industry experts to broaden Neurocrine's understanding of biofluid biomarkers.
- Analyze and manage complex datasets, demonstrating a strong grasp of advanced data analysis and statistical methodologies.
- Maintain and revise standard operating procedures (SOPs) and prepare data summaries for conducted experiments.
- Ensure compliance with all SOPs, safety, and quality assurance standards consistently.
- Provide training and supervision to junior staff as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or
- PhD or equivalent with some relevant experience, which may include postdoctoral experience.
- Proven track record in implementing immunoassays, proteomics, and cell-based assays (e.g., flow cytometry) for biomarker discovery using pre-clinical or clinical samples.
- Extensive experience handling tissue samples and/or biofluids.
- Familiarity with techniques such as ELISA, IP, western blotting, flow cytometry, high content imaging, and HTRF.
- Experience in managing contract research organizations.
- Practical knowledge of various biomarker assay platforms (e.g., Luminex, MesoScale Discovery, and/or SIMOA) is preferred.
- Experience in exosome purification in humans and non-clinical species is a plus.
- Experience working with human biospecimens is advantageous.
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of project and group objectives and methodologies.
- Recognizes and interprets anomalous and inconsistent results effectively.
- Capable of explaining the rationale behind data and the implications of results.
- Strong knowledge in one or more scientific disciplines, becoming an expert in a specific area.
- Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles, methods, and techniques.
- Proficient in using a variety of laboratory equipment and tools.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and provide training to junior team members.
- Excellent computer proficiency.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented while maintaining a broader perspective on the scientific impact on the team.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines with high accuracy and efficiency.
- Strong project management capabilities.
Neurocrine Biosciences is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. We recognize that there are various paths to meet our requirements and encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
