Purpose and Scope

As an Advanced Practice Provider at Norton Sound Health Corporation, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care to outlying village residents. Under the direct supervision of the TB Liaison in Nome, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing care for patients with TB or close contact with patients with Tuberculosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients with screening, contract tracing, evaluation, and treatment of patients with TB or close contact with patients with Tuberculosis
  • Develop and implement communication education and needs assessments, and create culturally appropriate educational materials
  • Collaborate with the NSHC Physician TB Liaison to ensure completion of tasks on the TB action plan
  • Assess, plan, and provide patient care under the supervision of a physician
  • Examine patients, perform comprehensive physical examinations, and compile patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examinations
  • Ensure proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery
  • Use appropriate processes of assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation when assessing the patient's condition and needs, setting outcomes, implementing appropriate actions to meet the patient's/family's physical, emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual, and safety needs, and evaluating patient's progress
  • Ensure patient care is accomplished effectively and efficiently in a cost-effective manner, discharge planning is carried out, and the medical regime for each patient is implemented as prescribed by the physician
  • Participate in facilitating patient and family learning by explaining the patient's disease, process, and planning interventions to the patient/family
  • Demonstrate ability to care for medical, critically ill, traumatically injured, mental health, emergency, maternal/neonate, and pediatric populations according to policy and procedure when medically necessary

Required Knowledge and Skills

All Norton Sound Health Corporation employees are expected to have general knowledge of typical office technologies such as computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and typical office software.

Job-specific knowledge includes knowledge of compliance (state, federal, and corporate) and the ability to perform a high level of customer service, manage the stresses and pressures of providing services in a fast-paced environment, and understand and manage patient/customer confidentiality.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Master's Degree in Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner program

Experience: General (Non-supervisory) and Supervisory experience

Credentials: Licensed to practice as an Advanced Practice Provider in the State of Alaska; NCCPA, PALS, Medivac, ACLS, and BLS certification/registration; DEA#

In addition, must maintain a current collaborating agreement with Physician or Physicians on NSHC Medical Staff.

Physical and Working Conditions

The work environment is a standard office environment and a standard clinical environment, with exposure to latex, biohazard, or other harmful substances. Some travel is required, including travel via large aircraft, small aircraft, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, or boat.
