Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Technician to join our team at Jones Lang LaSalle IP, Inc. as a Building Systems Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of HVAC and electrical equipment located in the interior and exterior of buildings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, repair, and maintain mechanical/electrical operating equipment and machinery.
  • Operate, repair, and maintain utility plant equipment and associated systems.
  • Conduct routine and ongoing assessments of building systems operations.
  • Perform tests, rounds, and analyze data to ensure proper functioning of departmental equipment.
  • Monitor the operation of all mechanical and electrical operating equipment.
Day-to-Day Activities
  • Install, service, maintain, and repair environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments.
  • Mount compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
  • Install evaporator units in chassis or in air-duct systems, using hand tools.
  • Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
  • Cut and thread pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
  • Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings, or unions, and solder joints, using a torch, forming complete circuits for refrigerant.
  • Install expansion and discharge valves in circuits.
  • Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connect control panels to power sources.
  • Install air and water filters in completed installations.
  • Inject small amounts of refrigerant into compressors to test systems and add Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressures.
  • Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.
  • Test joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solutions.
  • Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands.
  • Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician's hand tools and test equipment.
  • May install, repair, and service air conditioners, ranging from 15 to 20 tons cooling capacity, in warehouses and small factory buildings.
  • Service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all HVAC and associated systems and equipment.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • HVAC technicians must have a Universal CFC recovery certification (or within 90 days of employment).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineering with a strong background in the technical aspects of HVAC/R, plumbing, electrical, production equipment repair, and maintenance.
  • Candidate must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of computer applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Two years of trades school or documented apprenticeship in electrical systems, refrigeration, and HVAC.
  • Must be available for call-in work and perform other duties as required.
