Position Title: Building Engineer

Position Overview:

The Building Engineer is responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical and electrical systems within the facility. This role requires hands-on expertise in managing HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical controls, and other essential building systems. The position may involve working in challenging environments, including extreme temperatures, and requires the ability to lift heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Install and troubleshoot electrical circuits as needed.
  • Conduct repairs on restroom fixtures and plumbing systems, including copper and black pipe work.
  • Safely drain and prepare systems for maintenance tasks.
  • Perform minor carpentry work, including ceiling tile replacement and door hardware repairs.
  • Execute basic electrical tasks, such as replacing bulbs and ballasts.
  • Maintain air handling units and convectors to ensure optimal performance.
  • Manage the operation and inspection of emergency generators and related components.
  • Request necessary materials for repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance, including filter changes and lubrication.
  • Inspect and document the condition of mechanical and electrical systems, providing reports to supervisors.
  • Perform additional duties as required within the scope of responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in relevant mechanical trades or trade school education in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or related fields.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in operating central plant equipment and building systems.
  • Proven skills in repairing electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Experience in safely securing systems for maintenance work.
  • Ability to solder and braze copper piping and thread black pipe.
  • Basic carpentry skills are preferred.
  • Strong understanding of building auxiliary systems, including fire and life safety systems.
  • Familiarity with general building systems, such as vertical lifts and overhead doors.
  • Valid driver's license is required for operating company vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures typical in maintenance operations.
  • Physical capability to perform demanding tasks, including climbing, lifting, and working in confined spaces.
  • Proficient in using various hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Work Schedule: Day Shift, Monday to Friday
