Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Para Educator - Substitute to join our team at Omak School District 19. As a Para Educator - Substitute, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and behavioral needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Student Learning: Assist students in an individual or group setting, helping them to understand and complete assigned learning activities.
  • Provide Instructional Support: Work under the direction of the special education teacher to provide one-on-one instruction and supervision to students as needed.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Keep student and staff information confidential, adhering to district policies and procedures.
  • Record Student Progress: Document individual student progress in the curriculum and behavior program, providing valuable insights for teachers and administrators.
  • Assist with Behavior Management: Consistently follow established plans to support students with behavioral challenges, using techniques such as redirection, teaching replacement behaviors, and providing reinforcement.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues: Work cooperatively with members of the educational team to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Develop Rapport with Students: Build strong relationships with students, particularly those with special needs or at-risk behaviors.
  • Perform Administrative Tasks: Complete computer tasks and other duties as directed by supervisors, ensuring the smooth operation of the program.
  • Stay Informed: Familiarize yourself with district policies, procedures, and initiatives, including those related to student safety, health, and discipline.
  • Refer Concerns: Promptly refer concerns related to student safety, health, and discipline to the supervising teacher or principal.
  • Perform Other Tasks: Carry out other duties as reasonably requested by the teacher or administrators, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the team.
Requirements
  • Education: A Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in a job-related area is preferred.
  • Experience: Job-related experience, particularly in a special education setting, is given priority consideration.
  • Training: Documented training in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is highly valued in the selection process.
  • Certifications: A First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate are required.
Working Environment

The Para Educator - Substitute will work in a dynamic and fast-paced educational environment, requiring the ability to respond to changing situations and priorities. The position involves significant physical activity, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, as well as frequent stooping, kneeling, and crawling. The successful candidate will be able to work in a clean and safe atmosphere, with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions.
