POSITION:  Special Education Secretary/Paraprofessional

SALARY: $21.82-$25.30, per hour DOE

REPORTS TO: Special Education Director

LOCATION: Paschal Sherman Indian School, Omak, Washington

Basic Functions:  This position is responsible for presenting a positive school image, and performing Secretary and Para-professional functions that support PSIS Vision, Mission and Core Values. The incumbent is required to perform the assigned duties in a professional manner, working with administration and staff of the school and Tribe, Omak School District, as well as coordinating with BIE for expected time line completion for fiscal audits. Much of the information is confidential in nature.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: 

The position typically requires an AA Degree OR an equivalent amount of credits. AND Experience in NASIS data systems in regards to attendance, grades, ad hoc data printouts, special education, and evaluations. Requires a valid Drivers' License.  Must submit all proof of degree/transcripts/certifications and THREE written letters of reference with application. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

Requires technical skills to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Requires knowledge and awareness of office procedures to complete tasks in a highly efficient manner. Requires skills to compile data and create informational presentations and trainings for staff. Requires specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including: concepts of grammar and correct use of punctuation in writing, create documents following prescribed formats and/or present information before groups; standardized bookkeeping principles; understanding of regulations & laws (e.g. Washington State Administrative Code, Special Education, and Federal) related to the job functions.

Requires the-ability to exercise independent judgement with specific guidelines and standards.

Requires the ability to learn and operate advanced software to perform a variety of high-level computer tasks.

Requires ability to operate standard office equipment including pertinent software applications e.g., computers, Xerox, postage meters, fax, scanners, duplicating equipment etc.

Requires ability to multi-task in an environment with constant interruptions.

Requires ability to prepare and maintain accurate records; gather, collate, and/or classify data.

Requires ability to handle/maintain confidential information.

Requires demonstrated ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performances of his/her duties.

Requires ability to operate professionally in demeanor and work ethics.

Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisor and staff.

Must able to function indoors in an office environment engaged in work of a moderately a sedentary nature.

Requires physical ability including 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing while performing job's functions.

Requires ambulatory ability to sit for extended periods of time, to utilize microcomputers and peripheral equipment, and to move about various campus locations.

Requires the ability to use near vision to read printed materials.

Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone.

Requires the ability to retrieve work materials from overhead, waist, and ground level files.

Requires sustained repetitive motions and manual and finger dexterity to write, use a pointing device, keyboard at an acceptable, operate microcomputer, and operate other office equipment.

Requires extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, twisting and lifting up to 50 lbs.
