The Patient Accounting Billing Solutions Representative at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute plays a vital role in handling patient-related calls, managing credit and collections activities, and coordinating the Medicare Bad Debt program. This position requires expertise in multiple modules in Epic, a system-based work queue, to resolve accounts and provide a conclusive response to patients in a timely and effective manner.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life-changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating all account activity when balance becomes patient responsibility, including communication with the patient and guarantors and collection agencies.
- Coordinating collections referral process for patients with outstanding balances, including setting up payment plans or referring the patient to resources offered by the Institute.
- Reviewing patient accounts to ensure third-party follow-up has been complete in advance of collection activities.
- Resolving and/or directing requests from external sources, such as detailed bill requests from attorney offices.
- Conducting proper collection and/or write-off of patient account balances according to DFCI policy.
- Reviewing and resolving patient correspondence through various work queues.
- Performing daily cash drawer reconciliation for both internal and agency credit card payments.
- Coordinating patient inquiries across departments to ensure patient questions are addressed in a timely manner.
Requirements include:
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar billing solution setting required.
- Knowledge of insurance follow-up and third-party billing requirements, practices, and procedures is required.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Excel.
- Knowledge and experience in Epic specialty billing preferred.
