General School Nurse Position in Brookline

Amergis Educational Staffing is partnering with schools in Brookline, MA to hire a general school nurse to work with students on a contractual basis.

Up to $55/hour
The School Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of student/client care and/or contracted services in a school setting.
The School Nurse may also be in a supervisory position within the contracted services. The School Nurse provides services in accordance with Amergis Healthcare's philosophy, standards, policies and physician orders.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement and evaluate student's care needs
2. Demonstrates on each assignment the provision of skill nursing care in accordance with prescribed orders/IHP
3. Performs interventions, treatments and medications administration according to the identified priorities as outlined in the IHP
4. Monitors and documents effectiveness of interventions, treatments and medications
5. Completes documentation per client expectations
6. Coordinates and facilitates services as requested between the school, local health agencies and other community resources to meet the needs of the student
7. Communicates with the school district personnel about student's plan of care/IHP
8. Notifies District School Nurse/Amergis Supervisor /Parent/Physician as outlined in the IHP regarding the following:
9. Changes in condition of student
10. Physician notification to obtain necessary orders
11. Collaborates with school/education personnel/other health agencies as requested, to design and meet student's health care needs
12. Evaluates and assures student safety at all times
13. Adheres to Amergis Healthcare and school district policies
14. Maintains accuracy in student health record
Supports professional practice by observing the following:
1. Nurse Practice Act
2. Standards of Nursing Practice
3. Standards of Patient Care
4. Standards of accrediting body (The Joint Commission)
5. State laws
6. Educational Codes and Federal Laws as described in the ADA and IDEA
7. Patient Bill of Rights
8. Amergis Healthcare and school district policies
Minimum Requirements:
1. Graduate of an accredited registered, practical or vocational nursing program
2. Licensed as a Licensed Practical, Licensed Vocational or Registered Nurse in state(s) where practicing
3. One year of professional experience, preferred
4. Complies with accepted professional standard and practice
5. Willingness to participate in skill advancement, if applicable
6. Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program
7. Current CPR
8. PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
9. Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
10. Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
11. Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
12. Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
13. Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
14. Computer proficiency required
15. Must be at least 18 years of age
