This role will involve both fieldwork and office responsibilities. We seek an environmental scientist well-versed in environmental laws and regulations concerning wetlands and protected species, with hands-on experience in conducting habitat assessments, botanical surveys, wildlife surveys, wetland assessments/delineations, and protected species surveys.

Fieldwork primarily occurs in the Southeastern U.S.; however, for the right candidate, there may be opportunities for short-term projects across the country. There is potential for the right individual to expand this role into a more significant position.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an environmental science or natural resources field such as Biology, Botany, Ecology, Fisheries Biology, Forestry, Geography, Marine Science, or Wildlife Biology.
  • 5-8 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within the energy sector.
  • Extensive experience in planning and executing field studies (e.g., habitat assessments, botanical surveys, endangered species surveys, water quality assessments).
  • Willingness to travel and engage in field studies in remote locations under challenging conditions.
  • Strong technical writing and communication abilities.
  • Basic or working knowledge of Southeastern flora and fauna.
  • Experience in permitting natural resources projects in the Southeast and collaborating with state and federal resource agencies.
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of environmental impact assessments; experience in preparing NEPA documentation (EISs, EAs, Categorical Exclusions) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) is required, and familiarity with GPS/GIS field data-collection software is preferred.
  • This position requires a flexible schedule and the capacity to travel and mobilize to project sites, performing work in all weather conditions.
  • Adhere to project schedules and budgets, coordinate travel arrangements, procure necessary vehicles and equipment, and facilitate multi-party collaboration efficiently.
  • Comply with policies and procedures outlined in project-specific health and safety plans and Tetra Tech's Environmental Health and Safety Management policies.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening in accordance with state law.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

At Tetra Tech, health and safety are integral to our success. Our employees work collaboratively to adhere to all applicable health and safety practices and protocols, including public health orders and regulations mandated by local, state, federal, and international authorities.
