Chief Financial Officer

Job Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive management team, responsible for the company's financial, administrative, and risk management operations. The CFO will develop and implement a financial and operational strategy, monitor key performance indicators, and ensure the company's assets are preserved and financial results are accurate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate the company's future direction and support tactical initiatives;
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans;
  • Develop financial and tax strategies;
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes;
  • Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction;
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team;
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team;
  • Manage the accounting, human resources, legal, tax, and treasury functions;
  • Oversee all financial operations;
  • Manage third parties to which functions have been outsourced;
  • Oversee the company's transaction processing systems;
  • Implement operational best practices;
  • Oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package;
  • Oversee the issuance of financial information;
  • Report financial results to the company President, Board of Directors, and executive management team;
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile;
  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the industry;
  • Design, implement, and monitor reliable control systems;
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage;
  • Ensure the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Ensure record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies;
  • Report risk issues to the executive management team;
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations;
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts;
  • Arrange for debt and equity financing;
  • Invest funds appropriately;
  • Participate in conference calls with the financial community;
  • Maintain banking, bonding, insurance, ESOP relationships; supervise staff; and
  • Provide excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to customers, vendors, clients, partners, and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

Requirements:

  • Financial Management: Oversees staff in developing annual departmental budgets that support operating plans and submits those budgets to the company president for approval; manages company budgets within legally acceptable professional guidelines, accounting principles, excel, spreadsheets, IT systems, and legal statutes.
  • Results Oriented: Maintains focus on outcomes; is proactive and goal-oriented; concentrates on meeting objectives, delivering to the required time, cost, and quality; holds performance as more important than process; sets specific, measurable, and relevant goals and takes efficient action to accomplish success.
  • Planning: Accurately designs an approach to achieve a desired business condition; considers resource availability, task difficulty, time span, and dynamic changes in the company's business environment; makes proactive adjustments; develops contingency models; tracks progress toward the plan's outcome.
  • People Systems: Role models the company's vision, mission, and core values at all times; hires top-caliber employees who strengthen the company's culture and motivates them to achieve performance expectations; takes an active role in developing the company's future leadership (i.e., bench strength).
  • Decision Quality: Consistently makes effective, timely, and sound decisions; solicits information from multiple sources prior to making a judgment; considers implications and contingency plans associated with all decisions.
  • Customer Service: Consistently exceeds customer expectations; keeps customers well-informed, listens to them attentively, and addresses their concerns; enacts a personal approach to customer service.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Treats others with respect, collaboration, and support in such a way that work relationships are improved and morale is increased; is approachable; has effective communication skills.

Education/Experience:

Examples of the preferred education, training, and/or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and competencies for this position include: at least ten (10) years of professional experience involving financial management, corporate accounting practices, and strategic planning procedures.

Special Notes, Licenses, and Certifications:

Pre-employment: Incumbents must sign the Confidentiality, Non-disclosure, and Non-solicitation Agreement prior to their first day on the job.

License: A valid class C driver's license is required of this job classification.

Language: Fluent English communication skills are required of this position.

Certifications: While a Certified Public Accountant certification is desirable, there are no specific certifications required of this job classification.

Working Conditions: Work is predominately in an office environment with associated noise, space, and computer screen exposure.

Background Investigation: Incumbents must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates are subject to a background investigation and/or drug test.

Introductory Period: Incumbents appointed to this job classification will serve an introductory period of three months.
