Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Electric IT Portfolio Management to join our team. As a key member of our IT leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial and operational aspects of our Electric IT organization.

This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of Lean Portfolio Management principles and practices. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a portfolio management strategy that aligns with our business objectives and supports the overall IT department goals.

Key Accountabilities
  • Portfolio Management: Develop and implement a portfolio management strategy that aligns with business objectives and supports the overall IT department goals.
  • Apply Lean Portfolio Management principles to prioritize and optimize the portfolio of products within the value streams.
  • Ensure a well-balanced portfolio that considers factors such as strategic alignment, risk, resource allocation, and value delivery.
  • Regularly review and assess the portfolio performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and making adjustments as needed.
  • Financial Management: Manage the financial aspects of the portfolio, including budgeting, forecasting, and tracking of financial performance.
  • Collaborate with finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, cost control, and adherence to financial policies and guidelines.
  • Conduct financial analysis to assess the financial health of the portfolio and make informed decisions regarding resource allocation and investment priorities.
  • Line Management: Provide line management oversight for Project Managers and Project Analysts within the portfolio.
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide coaching and feedback, and support professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
Qualifications
  • A degree directly related to or transferable to portfolio management; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years' experience in portfolio management, ideally within the IT industry or utility sector.
  • 5+ years' experience of developing, implementing and utilizing Lean Portfolio Management principles and practices.
  • 5+ years' proven experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, Agile certifications) are desirable.
  • Experience in leading and managing organizational change, with the ability to drive adoption of new processes and practices.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Exceptional decision-making skills, utilizing a combination of data-driven insights, business acumen, and strategic thinking.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to identify and address complex issues and challenges in a proactive and innovative manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, business needs, and industry dynamics.
  • Exemplary professional conduct, ethics, and integrity in all interactions and decision-making.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
