Location: Oakland, CA or Concord, CA

Schedule: Monday through Friday

Travel: Local, including field trips, occasional home visits, and required training sessions

Salary: $27.55-$30.92 DOE plus $1,000 sign-on bonus

Employee Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt

We provide essential tools, knowledge, and resources to empower over 11,000 individuals and families each year through various programs, including early childhood education, youth mentorship, employment services, and more. Our diverse workforce of over 350 individuals reflects the communities we serve, promoting inclusivity and cultural responsiveness.

Program Overview

The Children and Family Services programs encompass Head Start, Early Head Start, State Pre-Kindergarten, Home-Based Services, and Developmental Play Groups. These programs cater to over 900 children from birth to kindergarten entry, along with expectant parents and their families, delivering comprehensive child development and family services across multiple centers.

Role Summary

As an Early Childhood Educator, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care for infants and toddlers in a nurturing and secure educational environment. Your role will focus on promoting the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children enrolled in the Early Head Start program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver relationship-based care during daily routines such as mealtime, toileting, hand washing, and napping for infants or toddlers.
  • Design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the team to create and execute daily lesson plans.
  • Conduct assessments and develop individual development plans while documenting ongoing observations of children.
  • Organize and conduct parent-teacher conferences for each child according to established schedules.
  • Perform home visits for each child in accordance with program requirements.
  • Utilize classroom materials and routines to foster an environment conducive to the developmental needs and interests of the children.
  • Maintain effective and professional relationships with families.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and complete a minimum of 21 hours of professional development annually.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Center Director.

Qualifications

  • Ability to create and implement daily curriculum plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work harmoniously in a multicultural team.
  • Capacity to foster a sense of security and trust in infants and toddlers through warmth and support.
  • A compassionate approach to working with children and families, maintaining open and cooperative relationships.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish/English or an Asian language/English is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting techniques and a commitment to preventive health measures in the classroom.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Teacher Permit or eligibility (24 ECE units, including 9 units of core courses).
  • AA Degree in Child Development or a related field is preferred.
  • Completion of 6 units in Infant/Toddler Care (or in progress).

Physical Requirements

Must be capable of climbing stairs, reaching, bending, lifting 20-30 pounds, crawling, kneeling, stooping, twisting, and grasping materials. Ability to walk and climb ladders if necessary.
