At Cibola General Hospital, Respiratory Therapists are integral members of the healthcare team, providing care in various settings including critical care units, emergency departments, and pulmonary function laboratories.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer prescribed respiratory therapies while understanding the indications and contraindications associated with different treatment modalities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all therapies provided and ensure proper billing practices.
- Communicate effectively with medical staff regarding patient status and treatment plans.
- Adhere to safety protocols and familiarize oneself with emergency procedures within the hospital.
- Set up and monitor mechanical ventilation for patients requiring assistance with breathing.
- Deliver respiratory treatments such as oxygen therapy, nebulization, and chest physiotherapy as per physician directives.
- Conduct diagnostic tests in the pulmonary function lab, contributing to comprehensive patient assessments.
- Engage in emergency response activities, including participation in CPR teams.
- Assist with airway management and perform intubations when necessary.
- Conduct various diagnostic procedures including EKGs, EEGs, and blood gas analyses, following departmental guidelines.
- Provide education to patients and their families regarding respiratory care and management.
- Collaborate with physicians to tailor respiratory care plans for individual patients.
- Ensure respiratory equipment is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and functionality.
- Contribute to the development of departmental policies and participate in research initiatives related to respiratory care.
- Engage in ongoing education and training opportunities to enhance professional skills.
- Demonstrate proficiency in providing care across diverse patient populations, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
- Comply with the hospital's ethical standards and report any concerns regarding compliance or conduct.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program with an Associate's degree.
- Successful completion of a national or international certification examination in Respiratory Therapy.
- Possession of relevant credentials such as RRT or CRT.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in New Mexico.
- Valid CPR certification.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of clinical experience is preferred, with specific experience in critical care and pediatrics being advantageous.
Physical Requirements:
This position necessitates the ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving equipment, and may require working in various positions for extended periods. Attention to safety when handling gases and oxygen is crucial.
Work Environment:
Flexibility in scheduling is required, with potential for day, evening, or night shifts, including overtime as needed to ensure patient care.
