Job Overview

Position Summary

The EHS Manager plays a crucial role in guiding and supporting the establishment and execution of regulatory-driven initiatives aimed at maintaining a secure and compliant work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with site leadership to identify and address unsafe working conditions.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, local, and organizational safety regulations.
  • Provide coaching to the site team and employees on recognizing and mitigating hazards.
  • Advocate for and support the Behavioral Based Safety program and philosophy.
  • Partner with frontline teams and management to devise strategies that eliminate exposure risks.
  • Conduct regular inspections and assessments of the facility.
  • Engage with employees to promote the implementation of safe work practices.
  • Investigate all incidents and safety exposures to determine root causes.
  • Accompany safety, health, and insurance inspectors during site evaluations.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with corporate and external safety protocols.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of employees on office safety, emergency response, First Aid/CPR/AED certification, and other OSHA-related requirements.
  • Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and occupational injuries or illnesses, and assist in preparing materials for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance claims.
  • Act as the primary liaison with relevant regulatory and governmental agencies; oversee health & safety, environmental, and DOT audits of facilities and recommend preventive measures.
  • Manage the Workers Compensation program and compile accident reports as required by regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain and update safety files, records, and all written programs and documents.
  • Facilitate Safety Committees with managers and employees to provide training, identify issues, and promote workplace safety.
  • Communicate and celebrate safety achievements, fostering a company-wide commitment to safety and continuous environmental improvement; educate on EHS best practices and prevention strategies.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a technical or safety-related field (preferably in Occupational Safety) or equivalent; 2-4 years of relevant experience in industries such as consumer packaged goods, distribution, manufacturing, or grocery, with a proven track record (knowledge of California workers' compensation laws preferred) and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in supervising direct reports is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

Knowledge: Previous experience managing safety and environmental programs in a manufacturing setting (preferably in food manufacturing) with a comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local safety regulations and industry best practices in safety engagement and enhancement. General knowledge of workers' compensation administration and environmental regulations related to manufacturing facilities, including familiarity with various environmental measuring devices. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with all organizational levels.

Language Skills: Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public in both Spanish and English.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Proficient in applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Skilled in solving practical problems and managing a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Occupational Hygiene Safety Technician (OHST) preferred.
