Position Summary
The EHS Manager plays a pivotal role in leading and supporting the creation and execution of essential regulatory-driven initiatives aimed at maintaining a secure and compliant workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with site leadership to identify and rectify unsafe working conditions.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, local, and corporate safety regulations.
- Guide the site team and employees in recognizing and mitigating hazards.
- Champion and endorse Nissin's Behavioral Based Safety philosophy.
- Collaborate with frontline teams and management to devise strategies that minimize exposure to risks.
- Conduct regular site inspections and assessments.
- Engage with employees to promote the implementation of safe work practices.
- Investigate all incidents and safety exposures, identifying root causes in collaboration with management.
- Accompany safety, health, and insurance inspectors during site evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with documentation requirements according to corporate and external safety protocols.
- Assist in the orientation and training of employees on office safety, emergency response, and OSHA-related requirements.
- Lead investigations into accidents and incidents, providing support for material preparation for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance claims.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory and governmental agencies; oversee health & safety, environmental, and DOT audits, recommending preventative measures.
- Manage the Workers Compensation program and compile accident reports for regulatory agencies.
- Maintain and update safety records, written programs, and documentation.
- Facilitate Safety Committees with managers and employees to provide training, identify issues, and promote workplace safety.
- Communicate successes and foster a company-wide commitment to safety and continuous environmental improvement; educate on EHS best practices and hazard management.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a technical or safety-related field (preferably in Occupational Safety) or equivalent; 2-4 years of relevant experience in industries such as consumer packaged goods, distribution, manufacturing, or grocery, with a proven track record. Knowledge of California workers' compensation laws is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge: Experience managing safety and environmental programs in a manufacturing setting (preferably food manufacturing) with a comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local safety regulations and industry best practices.
Language Skills: Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business publications, professional journals, and governmental regulations. Capable of writing reports and business correspondence, and effectively presenting information in both Spanish and English.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, and geometry to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Skilled in solving practical problems and interpreting a variety of instructions in different formats.
Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Occupational Hygiene Safety Technician (OHST) preferred.
