Job Summary:

This is specialized work involved in the inspection of fire-rated doors per NFPA 80. Employees in this job ensure that inspected facilities are in compliance with the NFPA 80 standards for fire door inspections and in accordance with Barrier Technologies' Training Methods and Procedural Manual (TMP-001).

They also perform field repair of fire-rated doors, frames, and hardware per NFPA 80, NFPA 105, and the IBC (International Building Code) standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Inspect fire-rated and smoke doors per NFPA 80.
  2. Successfully complete Barrier Technologies' training for Fire Door Inspection as outlined in Barrier Technologies' ISO 17020:2012 certification requirements.
  3. Ensure completion of accurate reports for customer code compliance.
  4. Maintain professional, timely communication with customers prior to and following projects.
  5. Perform minor repair of fire door frames, doors, locksets, latches, closers, strike plates, miscellaneous door and frame hardware and material to bring up to code requirements.
  6. Perform repairs in ordinance with NFPA 80, NFPA 105, and the IBC standards for fire door performance.
  7. Fill holes in frames/doors.
  8. Shim to correct clearances.
  9. Clean/install closers and hardware to fix latching and closing issues.
  10. Establish plan of action for door replacement through facilities in a time-efficient manner.
  11. Document repairs that are not able to be completed, obtain and record specifications for hardware to be ordered.
  12. Provide accurate documentation for customers' code compliance.
  13. Work with hand tools (drill, screws, screwdriver, tap & dye sets, Bondo, sander, etc.).
  14. Administer proper infectious control measures per hospital requirements.
  15. Other duties as assigned (support other service lines).
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
  1. Must be efficient with smartphones, tablets, computers, and Microsoft Office for reporting daily progress to Operations Support.
  2. Demonstrate ability to complete on-site emergency troubleshooting.
  3. Must be able to understand how to read Life Safety Plans (LSPs) and work through a facility self-directed.
  4. Must have high attention to detail.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge and use of tools and maintenance and calibration equipment.
  6. Demonstrate ability to follow inspection methods and procedures, recognizing and recording deficiencies.
  7. Experience in customer service and working with the public and clients.
  8. Knowledge of computer software, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  9. Self-starter, excellent listener, and able to complete tasks upon deadlines and with limited supervision.
  10. Maintain professional, timely communication with customers.
  11. Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  12. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  13. Good record keeping and tracking of facilities repair work.

  4. Must be able to travel extensively.
