Patient Care Associate

Position Overview:
The Patient Care Associate is responsible for delivering fundamental patient support services as assigned by the Registered Nurse, aiding the nursing team in ensuring high-quality patient care.
Professional Relationships:
Reports to and collaborates with the following roles:
Patient Care Director or designated representative
Registered Nurse
Must effectively engage and communicate with Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Scope of Duties:
- Provide exceptional service to both internal and external clients, patients, and customers in accordance with Service Excellence Standards.
- Execute all patient care tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Operate as an assistant to the nursing staff or Registered Nurse.
- Carry out non-nursing responsibilities that enhance the quality of patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Ensure a safe and comforting environment for patients by:
- Assisting patients with mobility and positioning.
- Familiarizing patients with call lights and safety features, ensuring accessibility and prompt response to calls.
- Monitoring and staying with patients who are restless.
- Instructing patients on the use of cough pillows.
- Aiding in the collection of medical data, including vital signs.
Support the Registered Nurse in specific aspects of patient admission, transfer, and discharge by:
- Preparing the unit for incoming patients.
- Assisting in patient transfers.
- Organizing personal belongings of patients.
- Accompanying patients as required.
Assist the Registered Nurse with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) by:
- Providing partial bed baths and assistance with showers as appropriate.
- Filling water pitchers and serving nourishment.
- Documenting intake and output accurately.
Participate in specimen collection and maintain documentation of vital signs and intake/output on designated forms.
Dispose of waste and linens regularly.
May be required to assist in other units as necessary.
Adhere to policies and procedures regarding infectious diseases by:
- Properly caring for patients under precautions.
- Utilizing protective measures as needed.
- Separating and disposing of infectious materials correctly.
Comply with Patient Safety goals established by the medical center.
Perform additional related duties as necessary.
Reporting Responsibilities:
- Report any deviations from standard operations to the Patient Care Director or designated representative immediately.
- Notify the supervisor of any unusual occurrences involving patients, staff, or self without delay.
- Inform the Registered Nurse or their delegate of any changes in patient conditions promptly.
- Report to the Patient Care Director any situations requiring attention.
- Document all incidents and breaches in quality care to the Patient Care Director and designated representative.
Accountability:
- Responsible for the quality of patient care provided.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all medical-related data and information.
- Adhere to all relevant Medical Center Policies and Procedures.
- Follow all unit-specific policies and procedures, including Infection Control Policies.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant or completion of one clinical rotation for nursing students.
Minimum Skills/Abilities:
Proficient in verbal and written communication in English.
Capable of performing mathematical calculations necessary for treatment protocols.
Able to lift, transfer, and assist patients as needed.
Certification/Licensure:
Nursing Assistant Certification is preferred.
