Unit Coordinator Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure patient and family members receive attentive care.
  • Respond to patient/family needs in a timely manner, maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the Patient Care Team, taking a proactive role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the unit.
  • Greet patients and families, providing a complete unit orientation and responding to initial questions.
  • Respond to individual patient/family needs.
  • Maintain hospital service standards, focusing on personal/behavioral, staff teamwork, and patient-staff interaction guidelines.
  • Answer, coordinate, and manage phone calls to the unit, placing pages and phone calls as needed.
  • Coordinate paperwork, including fax referrals.
  • Prepare and maintain patient medical records in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Schedule patient diagnostic tests, appointments, and consults, arranging patient escort and transport services.
  • Coordinate patient discharge logistics, including family notification, transportation, equipment, prescription, and follow-up appointments.
  • Perform clerical duties to admit, transfer, and discharge patients.
  • Prepare diet order sheets and submit for approval.
  • Act as a liaison and assist in problem-solving with ancillary services and other departments.
  • Provide backup coverage for patient transport, escorting discharge patients/family.
  • Monitor and ensure Advance Care Directives are up to date and in the patient chart.
Requirements:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
  • Ability to work as a team member, promoting a caring and collegial attitude toward fellow employees.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions, adapting to the changing pace on the pod, frequent interruptions, emergencies, and critical ill patients.
  • Ability to work independently, with well-developed organizational skills to prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with staff.
  • Demonstration of flexibility and willingness to adapt to diverse roles as a member of the pod-based patient care team.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for an extended period.
  • Ability to assist lifting and carrying linens up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to assist with patient transportation.

Administrative activities supporting clinicians, patients, and families. Working collaboratively to provide excellent care to patients and families in the safest environment.

To qualify, you must have:

  • Associate's Degree preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in medical or customer service setting preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Computer knowledge in windows-based environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Availability to work on weekends and Holidays.
