Position Overview

The College of Engineering, in partnership with the Roux Institute at Northeastern University, is initiating a strategic hiring campaign aimed at attracting multiple faculty members who possess complementary expertise in key research domains.

This initiative primarily emphasizes robotics, particularly as it relates to Digital Transformation within the fields of Life Sciences, Engineering, and Human-Data Interaction.

These faculty appointments will be located in Portland and will be available for tenured or tenure-track positions at the associate or full professor levels, specifically within the College of Engineering across the Departments of Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and/or Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

Responsibilities

Faculty members at Northeastern are expected to:

  • Establish independent research programs that secure external funding.
  • Deliver instruction at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Mentor students and postdoctoral researchers in their specific research areas.
  • Engage in service activities for the Institute, department, university, and broader academic community.

Academic rank at the Associate Professor or Full Professor levels will be determined based on experience and qualifications, reflecting a history of teaching and scholarly excellence.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in an engineering discipline or a closely related field is required by the start date of the appointment, along with a proven track record of excellence in research, teaching, and service.

We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds, including those from academia and industry. Senior candidates should demonstrate a history of developing innovative solutions to global challenges, maintaining a research program that emphasizes interdisciplinary and translational research, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, and being recognized as a leader in their field on a national and international scale.

Applicants should clearly articulate their interest in a primary department within the College of Engineering, as well as any secondary departments or colleges they wish to engage with.

  • A comprehensive curriculum vitae.
  • A Statement of Research Interests, Objectives, & Vision, highlighting connections to the aforementioned priorities and potential partnerships.
  • A Statement of Teaching Interests & Philosophy.
  • A Statement of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
  • Contact information for at least three professional references.
