About the Opportunity

The College of Engineering, in partnership with the Roux Institute at Northeastern University, is initiating a strategic hiring campaign for several faculty members specializing in areas of shared research interest.

This initiative is primarily concentrated on robotics, particularly as it relates to Digital Transformation in Life Sciences, Engineering, and Human-Data Interaction.

These positions will be based in Portland and will be offered at the tenured or tenure-track levels for faculty members at the associate or full professor ranks, primarily within the College of Engineering and its Departments of Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and/or Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

The Roux Institute is committed to fostering economic growth in Maine through Research, Learning, and Entrepreneurship, all framed within a collaborative approach. These partnerships are central to the Institute's mission.

Faculty members and researchers at the Roux Institute are expected to adopt a partner-first mentality and a technology transfer approach, emphasizing experiential learning and use-inspired research that aligns with the Institute's objectives.

Responsibilities

Faculty members at Northeastern are anticipated to:

  • Establish independent research programs that secure external funding.
  • Deliver instruction at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Mentor students and postdoctoral researchers in their respective fields.
  • Engage in service activities for the Institute, department, university, and academic discipline.

Academic rank will be determined based on experience and qualifications, reflecting a proven record of teaching and scholarly excellence.

Requirements

A Ph.D. in an engineering discipline or a closely related field relevant to the primary department is required by the start date of the appointment, along with a strong track record of excellence in research, teaching, and service.

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those from academia and industry. Senior candidates should demonstrate a history of developing innovative solutions to global challenges, maintaining a research program that emphasizes interdisciplinary and translational research, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, and being recognized as a leader in their field on both national and international stages.

Applicants should clearly articulate their interest in a primary department within the College of Engineering, as well as any secondary departments or colleges of interest.

  • A Statement of Teaching Interests & Philosophy.
  • A Statement of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
  • Contact information for at least three professional references.
