Job Summary

AWP Safety is seeking a highly skilled Traffic Control Specialist to join our team. As a Traffic Control Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our customers, employees, and the general public by effectively managing traffic flow and controlling road users through work zones.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, maintain, and remove advance warning signs, channelizing devices, and other traffic control devices according to federal, state, and local temporary traffic control guidelines and plans.
  • Maintain a flagger station by standing and controlling road users through the use of hand signals with a STOP/SLOW paddle.
  • Drive a company vehicle to transport equipment, trailers, and team members to and from work sites safely and in a timely manner.
  • Effective radio communication with team members on work sites.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and practices.
  • Notify supervisor of any potential safety issues or incidents.
  • Achieve organizational required training within timeframe established by project manager or facility manager.
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to protectors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Traffic Control Technician (TCT) certification or 2000+ verifiable hours required.
  • High school diploma or GED completion required.
  • Prior experience preferred in temporary traffic control services, utility industry, or construction industry.
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office products and customer relationship management systems.
  • Must be able to follow safe workplace practices.
  • Valid driver's license void of suspension or revocation.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to successfully handle the physical demands of this position, which include:

  • Hours of operation may vary due to staffing needs.
  • Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Frequent exposure to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites including high noise level in the work environment.
  • The position may work in outside conditions that include inclement weather, not limited to heat, cold, humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Position lifts or carries objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
