Job Summary

Under general supervision from elementary grade level teachers, the Instructional Support Specialist will assist with instructional and non-instructional duties related to the classroom educational program. This role requires a strong ability to work with students, staff, and parents, and to perform a variety of tasks to support the educational program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist students individually and in small groups with math, reading, writing, science, and other subjects
  • Set up and help with instructional exercises and special projects
  • Help supervise students during recess and lunch
  • Provide support and encouragement to promote positive behavior and independence
  • Administer minor first aid
  • Gather, prepare, and organize learning materials
  • Set up bulletin boards and displays of student work
  • Assemble student books for classroom display
  • Work with parent helpers to assist students on special projects
  • Assist with grading, recording, and distributing papers
  • Administer make-up quizzes and tests to students who were absent
  • Prepare and collate communications and papers to send home
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned
  • Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of college (48 units) or an Associate's degree (or higher)
  • Verification of COVID-19 vaccination status
Working Conditions

This role will be working in a classroom environment with constant interruptions. The successful candidate will need to be able to hear and speak to exchange information in person and on the telephone, and have adequate vision to read, prepare, and proofread documents. They will also need to be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, and have the dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
