Job Title: Instructional Aide

Fred Finch Youth & Family Services is a leading provider of mental health services for youth and families. We are seeking an experienced Instructional Aide to join our team at Avalon, a short-stay residential therapeutic program and non-public school for youth ages 12 to 18 with a dual diagnosis of serious emotional disturbance and developmental disability.

Job Summary:

The Instructional Aide will assist the Education Specialist (Teacher) with classroom activities involving youth, providing positive reinforcement and setting achievable academic and behavioral goals. The successful candidate will have a B.A. or B.S. degree, a passing score on the CBEST, and experience in academic coaching, teaching, or tutoring, preferably with youth with special needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Education Specialist with classroom activities, including lesson planning and implementation.
  • Provide individual and group support to youth, promoting positive behavior and academic achievement.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the Education Specialist and other team members.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of program goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a comprehensive and supportive environment for youth.
Requirements:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree required.
  • Passing score on the CBEST within 6 months of employment.
  • Demonstrated cultural responsiveness in working with diverse families and communities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the developmental milestones of the population served.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic coaching, teaching, or tutoring, preferably with youth with special needs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and/or competency with electronic clinical documentation systems.
  • Clean driving record; current CA Driver's License or ability to obtain within 10 days after hired.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree in social science field or education.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in residential treatment, special education, or related field.
  • Experience with intellectually disabled and/or emotionally disturbed adolescents.
