Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a skilled School Nurse to provide high-quality healthcare services to students in a school setting. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of nursing principles, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process to plan, implement, and evaluate student care needs.
  • Provide skill nursing care in accordance with prescribed orders and individualized healthcare plans (IHPs).
  • Perform interventions, treatments, and medication administration as outlined in the IHP.
  • Monitor and document the effectiveness of interventions, treatments, and medications.
  • Complete documentation per client expectations and maintain accurate student health records.
  • Coordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agencies, and other community resources to meet student needs.
  • Communicate with school district personnel about student plans of care and IHPs.
  • Notify District School Nurse, Amergis Supervisor, parents, and physicians as outlined in the IHP regarding changes in student condition, physician notification, and other relevant information.
  • Evaluate and assure student safety at all times.
  • Adhere to Amergis Healthcare and school district policies.
  • Support professional practice by observing relevant laws, codes, and standards, including the Nurse Practice Act, Standards of Nursing Practice, and Patient Bill of Rights.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited registered, practical, or vocational nursing program.
  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical, Licensed Vocational, or Registered Nurse in the state(s) where practicing.
  • One year of professional experience, preferred.
  • Compliance with accepted professional standards and practice.
  • Willingness to participate in skill advancement, if applicable.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • PPD or chest x-ray, if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate, per contract or state regulation.
  • Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training, as applicable to the job site.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit and provide information to and from appropriate individuals, including supervisors, coworkers, and clients, via strong communication skills and proficiency in the English language.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
