As a skilled Health Information Management Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient data. Your expertise in coding and abstracting will be instrumental in identifying documentation deficiencies and providing high-quality data for reimbursement and reporting purposes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify documentation supports diagnoses, procedures, and treatment results, identifying diagnostic and procedural information.
- Audit clinical documentation and coded data to validate documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes.
- Assign codes for reimbursements, research, and compliance with regulatory requirements, following coding conventions and serving as a coding consultant to care providers.
- Identify discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues, researching, analyzing, and recommending corrective actions.
- Provide training and support to coding staff, serving as a resource and subject matter expert.
Requirements:
- Minimum two years of hospital licensed space certified coding experience.
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required, with post-high school coursework in medical records administration, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Certified Professional Coder, Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three years of hospital licensed space experience as a Certified Hospital Coder.
- Completion of an accredited Health Information Management program.
