Job Summary

The Pharmacy Operations Manager is a key member of the pharmacy team, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy department. This role requires a strong leader who can manage and motivate a team of pharmacists and pharmacy supportive personnel to provide high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage a team of pharmacists and pharmacy supportive personnel
  • Maintain schedules for staff and oversee training for central pharmacists, new hires, and pharmacist shift responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a training and competency program for all staff and maintain records of those completed competencies
  • Participate in the hospital P&T committee and contribute to the medication safety program through medication incident reviews, proactive reporting, and participating in committee presentations and action planning
  • Establish standards and training for sterile product preparation in compliance with USP 795/797/800 non-sterile and sterile preparation standards, including annual review of master formulation records
  • Participate in precepting residents during administration rotations and actively contribute to project development and oversight
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings, in-services, and quality improvement programs
  • Maintain all required training and education per department requirements
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of information systems and other technology applications within the Pharmacy
  • Work with the technician purchaser in the procurement of medications and supplies in accordance with GPO bids and Steward Health Care best demonstrated practices
  • Assure adequate control and documentation of controlled substances
  • Meet or exceed all Accreditation Bodies (TJC, DNV, CMS, BOP) standards related to pharmacy
  • Use best practices in formulary and cost control
  • Participate in the process for patient and department charges, and that they are accurately and timely posted to accounts
  • Supervise all drug storage areas in accordance with legal and best demonstrated practice
  • Oversee preparation and delivery of medication throughout the hospital
  • Achieve satisfactory scores on operations assessments/audits (TJC, Regulatory, Accreditation, BOP, etc)
  • Assist the Director with the pharmacy budget and all aspects related to the financial program
Requirements
  • At least 5 years hospital pharmacy experience or administrative residency
  • Current license to practice Pharmacy in state and maintains all required CESoftware/Hardware: Preferred: Pyxis, Meditech, Microsoft Office
  • Training and proficiency in age-specific therapies for hospital patients
  • Patient and customer-oriented at all times - must be diplomatic
  • Manage diverse workforce
  • Pressure to perform in emergency situations
  • Overall decision-making responsibility
  • Constant interruptions
  • Ability to handle multiple projects
