Job Summary:

The Operational Center Watch Officer I will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of staff, students, and visitors at the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC). This position requires strong coordination and communication skills, as well as the ability to analyze and mitigate potential risks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and de-conflict training areas used by Diplomatic Security (DS) training programs to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Direct facility-wide notifications using various communication media.
  • Assist in the development and instruction of Tactical Operation Center (TOC) course curriculum as a subject matter expert.
  • Conduct administrative functions associated with training operations, including training requests processing, training coordination, and emergency operations procedures.
  • Operate integrated wave communications systems and terminate radio traffic to the operations center using multiple networks, frequencies, and communications security protocols.
  • Maintain technical and tactical proficiency on topics such as wave communication, personal tracking locators, mobile video systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, security management systems, electric countermeasures, and tactical operations center planning and procedures.
  • Provide expert support for all DS specialized hard skills programs, force continuum procedures, antiterrorism topics, domestic and overseas high threat dignitary protection, improvised explosive device recognition, room entry tactics, defensive tactics, advanced firearms tactics, and physical fitness.
  • Gather and monitor data from various sources, including surface or upper stations, satellites, weather bureaus, or radar, for risk management purposes related to training operations.
  • Assist in conducting practical exercises and present security awareness briefings to diverse audiences.
  • Maintain requisite levels of proficiency in current techniques, methods, policies, and procedures for security operations.
  • Assist with equipment inventory and maintenance for assigned programs.
  • Perform as a training safety officer.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma required.
  • One year of experience in a tactical operations center, plus five years of relevant hard skills tactics experience.
  • Instructor experience preferred.
  • Completion of a recognized instructor development training course preferred.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in an office environment and training sites, with occasional travel to other U.S. and foreign training sites.

Security Clearance:
  • Possess or be able to obtain/maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to maintain required Security Clearance/access approvals.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to complete work requiring regular and recurring physical and mental exertion, long periods of standing, and irregular hours.
  • Ability to work in unpleasant or adverse environmental conditions, such as extreme hot and cold.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials demonstrating physical challenging practical exercises.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment that consists of numerous personnel, use of nonlethal projectiles (firearms), air assets (helicopters), pyrotechnics, and fast-moving vehicles.
