Position Overview:

The medicinal chemistry division at RTI International is dedicated to fulfilling client requirements through comprehensive hit-to-lead and lead optimization processes. Our team integrates medicinal chemistry with broader initiatives aimed at drug discovery and development, encompassing computational chemistry, in vitro assay development, high-throughput screening (HTS), in vivo behavioral pharmacology, ADME/PK bioanalytics, and regulatory assistance.

We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry to join our dynamic and expanding team. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to engage in the synthesis of small molecules that serve as ligands for various biological targets, including kinases, G protein-coupled receptors, ion channels, and antimicrobial agents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design of experiments.
  • Independently or collaboratively perform compound synthesis.
  • Ensure accurate execution of studies and maintain thorough record-keeping.
  • Conduct data analysis and prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Participate in conferences to present innovative research findings.
  • Support grant application processes.
  • Provide training to junior researchers and technicians as necessary.
  • Review scientific literature and patents to gather relevant information.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in synthetic or medicinal chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • Proficient in a diverse range of chemical reactions.
  • Experience with LC/MS, NMR, and chiral separation techniques.
  • Familiarity with cell cultures and/or biological assays is highly desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of computational techniques is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting.
  • Proficiency in English is required.

The anticipated salary range for this position is as follows: $52,000 - $65,000. Our compensation structure considers various factors, including established salary ranges, internal budgets, business needs, and the applicant's education and experience.
