Maintain laboratory environments according to the standards set by Safety, Health, and Environmental Management. Assess laboratory safety protocols to ensure compliance with regulations and implement improvements as necessary.

Collaborate with scientists or engineers to analyze research projects, interpret test outcomes, or develop innovative testing methods.

Prepare test solutions, compounds, or reagents for laboratory personnel to facilitate testing.

Conduct preparation, extraction, and analysis of target compounds from various environmental sample matrices and sampling equipment or media.

Prepare sampling media prior to field deployment for sample collection, ensuring accurate documentation of the preparation process.

Analyze sample preparations using techniques such as GC/MS, LC/MS, or others. Reduce sample data and report analytical results promptly.

Perform quality control assessments and evaluate them against data quality indicator goals. Execute corrective actions as dictated by QA and/or project management.

Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure they are in proper working condition and troubleshoot any malfunctions as required.

Compile and assess test information to determine the efficiency of processes or equipment, or to diagnose issues.

Effectively communicate processes, results, and challenges to supervisors and the management team.

Assist in drafting technical papers or reports, or in preparing standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, or tests.

Develop, enhance, or customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, or analytical methodologies.

Recommend the procurement of laboratory supplies, such as chemicals, to maintain an adequate working inventory.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from an accredited institution.

Experience in Chemistry — Comprehensive knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances, as well as the chemical processes and transformations they undergo, including their uses, interactions, hazards, production techniques, and disposal methods.

A minimum of 2 years of experience operating gas chromatography (GC) instrumentation, preferably with GC/MS instrumentation for EPA methods.

Proficiency in instrument plumbing, including gas and liquid lines.

Familiarity with fundamental laboratory hygiene practices and protocols.

Ability to work while wearing an air-purifying respirator for up to 1 hour, once per week.

Legible handwriting is essential.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications as well as analytical or scientific software.

Key Responsibilities:

Lifting - < 35 pounds - 5%

Mandatory laboratory PPE - 100%, air-purifying respirator - 2%

Work will be conducted within specified chemical and industrial laboratory settings.

Other Key Responsibilities:

Operation of Agilent and/or Thermo Scientific Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS) instrumentation.

Operation of Thermo Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (LC/MS) instrumentation.

Proper handling of compressed gas cylinders, low-pressure liquid dewars, and high-pressure liquid dewars.

Eligibility for Federal Facility Access approval as a contractor.

Engage in a variety of routine scientific activities that apply scientific principles to the research, design, and development of laboratory and field projects.

Review and evaluate analysis data concerning the needs, requirements, and operations for test project design and support.

Prepare technical reports, procedures, and proposals, making recommendations regarding changes and revisions to the task leader.

Perform additional technical activities as necessary.
