Duties

WHAT IS THE SMALL BUSINESS SELF EMPLOYED DIVISION?

This division focuses on assisting small businesses and self-employed individuals with their tax obligations. The following are the responsibilities associated with this role at the full working level.

  • Manages various automated indexing systems and employs different filing systems to handle work efficiently. Ensures the upkeep of the relevant index on the database by inputting necessary information and generating reports and printed outputs as required.
  • Reviews correspondence and document submissions related to received work and processes them accurately according to established guidelines.
  • Organizes documents into distinct work files to facilitate requests for action in compliance with statutory requirements and established operational systems.
  • Utilizes the Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS) to obtain and analyze relevant tax information and transcripts.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a criminal history record check.
Qualifications

Federal experience is not mandatory. Relevant experience may have been gained in the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate the number of hours worked per week, on your resume.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

Specialized Experience/ Education GS-05: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal government. Examples of qualifying experience include performing a variety of tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information, and determining corrective actions on accounts, as well as researching for missing or unclear accounting information and reviewing financial documents for completeness. Specialized experience is related to the work of this position and has equipped you with the necessary competencies for successful job performance.

EDUCATION: Completed four (4) years above high school in any field, in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university.

OR

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

Education

For positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying for this position by substituting education or training for experience, submit a copy of your transcripts or equivalent. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet these criteria, please refer to the relevant resources.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed equivalent to those gained in conventional U.S. education programs. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

This is an open continuous announcement which will be used to fill vacancies as they become available contingent upon funding and space requirements.
