About the Position

We are seeking a highly qualified Marine Engineer to join the Maritime Administration as an Assistant/Associate Professor at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and conduct educational courses and programs within the Department of Marine Engineering.
  • Academic counseling of midshipmen.
  • Actively pursue professional development.
  • Assume a share of the departmental and institutional service activities.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 1 academic year (5 years for Associate Professor) full-time or equivalent experience teaching at a college or university in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Sea service as a licensed engineer officer, relevant engineering design experience ashore, or power-plant operator related experience may be substituted for teaching experience on a one-for-one basis.
  • A current (not expired) U.S. Coast Guard License (or equivalent credential) valid for service on United States Flag Commercial Ships as a 2nd Assistant Engineer, Unlimited Horsepower.
  • A valid Certificate under the provisions of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as currently amended, is preferred.
