Role Description

The Electrode Engineering team within the Technology group at Form Energy is a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering high-performance battery anode and cathode designs. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in designing components for our battery cell design.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will own the design of components and assemblies from concept to production, with a strong emphasis on design for manufacturing and assembly. You will work cross-functionally with teams on requirements definition and verification plans to deliver a design that meets those requirements.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the design of components integral to the battery cell electrodes and electrode stack assembly
  • Developing functional requirements in close collaboration with members of the Cell Engineering, Electrode Engineering, and Systems Engineering teams
  • Performing hands-on prototyping of designs and collaborating with broader teams to build integrated prototypes
  • Releasing designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc)
  • Demonstrating design functionality through analysis (e.g. FEA, CFD) and component- or system-level testing
  • Working with vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume production
  • Driving verification testing of your design work
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Bachelor's with 4+ years, or Master's with industry experience in mechanical design
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically SolidWorks modeling and drafting
  • Proficient in component design for mass manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), especially metal and injection molded plastic components
  • Proficient with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environment
  • Familiarity with mechanical verification testing
  • Experience with the design and verification of air or liquid seals is a plus
  • Experience working with batteries, energy storage, fuel cells, or electrolyzers is a plus
