The Theater Technical Support Specialist - Substitute plays a crucial role in providing technical, logistical, and instructional assistance for theatrical productions and related coursework. This position involves overseeing and executing various technical elements, including set construction, lighting, sound, special effects, and other essential services that facilitate the staging of theatrical performances.
Position Overview:
Under general supervision, substitute personnel are responsible for a diverse range of tasks that support the operations of a college or district program.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee, coordinate, and arrange the setup of theatrical lighting, sound, video, and other necessary equipment for individual performances.
2. Collaborate with production teams to determine the technical requirements for plays and events, including sound and lighting specifications.
3. Construct stage scenery and prepare detailed working drawings and floor plans for stage setups.
4. Position scenery and sets to optimize stage lighting and sound effects, while writing lighting cues and instructions for student and technician use.
5. Provide on-site technical expertise during theatrical events, offering guidance and support to production teams regarding staging concepts and techniques.
6. Design scenery and lighting as required for theater productions and other events.
7. Perform additional related duties as assigned to support the objectives of the position.
8. Adhere to all District policies and procedures, including the Board Policy Code of Professional Ethics.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess an Associate's degree in a theater-related field and a minimum of five years of experience providing technical support for theater productions. A Bachelor's degree in theater arts is preferred, or any combination of education and experience that meets the necessary qualifications.
Licenses and Certificates:
A valid California driver license is required.
Work Environment:
This role involves indoor work where safety considerations are paramount due to physical labor and the use of electrical equipment and power tools.
Conditions of Employment:
Employment is contingent upon verification of employment history, background checks as per Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the governing board. Short-term or temporary assignments do not include fringe benefits or pay for holidays or unworked time. Work hours and start dates will be coordinated with the supervisor, with early evening availability being desirable.
Regular attendance is an essential function of this role; failure to meet attendance requirements may impact employment status. The individual in this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with all relevant policies and procedures.
