Position Overview:

The Virginia Department of Human Resource Management is seeking a dedicated and skilled Human Resource Generalist to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting our recruitment, selection, classification, and compensation processes, as well as providing essential onboarding and training for hiring managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to federal and state employment regulations.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to formulate effective recruitment strategies and oversee all selection activities.
  • Manage background checks and maintain recruitment documentation.
  • Assess job roles and salary structures, offering guidance on classification and compensation matters.
  • Assist in the screening and selection process, including salary recommendations.
  • Initiate and process payroll actions and manage a dual compensation framework.
  • Maintain HR databases and electronic records.
  • Develop and deliver training programs aligned with agency policies and needs.

Additional Duties:

This position will also coordinate training and development initiatives, oversee drug testing procedures, and support various HR functions such as performance management, records management, and payroll processing. Exceptional customer service skills are essential for effective interaction with both internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of human resource policies and applicable laws.
  • Extensive experience in recruitment, classification, compensation, and performance management.
  • Proven ability to develop and facilitate training programs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with all levels of staff.
  • Familiarity with HR management systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Human Resources (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR).
