Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse Per Diem Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse to join our team on a per diem basis at Oregon Health & Science University's Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

Job Summary

The PICU RN will provide high-quality patient care to critically ill neonatal, pediatric, and young adult patients with medical, surgical, cardiac, oncologic, and trauma diagnoses. The ideal candidate will have experience in a high-acuity mixed (medical/cardiac) PICU and possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill patients in the PICU
  • Develop and implement individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
  • Monitor and manage patients' vital signs, medications, and treatments
  • Perform bedside procedures, including central line placement, arterial line placement, lumbar puncture, intubations/extubations, CRRT initiation/discontinuation, ECMO cannulations/decannulations, and chest exploration
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care and communication
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of evidence-based practice guidelines
Requirements
  • BLS AHA certification (RQI not accepted)
  • PALS AHA certification (RQI not accepted)
  • 2 years of experience in a PICU or high-acuity mixed (medical/cardiac) PICU
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • NRP certification
  • Experience in a high-acuity mixed (medical/cardiac) PICU
