Operations Manager Job Description

Cornerstone Building Brands is seeking a highly skilled Operations Manager to lead our production and receiving operations. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for implementing controls and improvements to achieve exceptional safety and production standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Excellence: Improve operational systems, processes, and policies to support organizational and departmental metrics.
  • Safety Leadership: Lead and participate in safety activities to elevate safety standards and expectations.
  • Training and Development: Monitor and train direct reports on Basic Principles and company conduct principles to enhance quality-conscious work ethic.
  • Process Improvement: Manage and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of support services through continuous improvements.
  • Communication: Facilitate daily communication with production staff on performance, process improvements, safety, and quality.
  • Long-Term Planning: Play a significant role in long-term planning, including initiatives for operational excellence.
  • Accountability: Administer training to direct reports to ensure accountability for developed standards.
  • 5S Practices: Ensure 5S practices are developed, documented, and executed daily to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement continuous improvements and strategic initiatives using lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Problem-Solving: Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Labor Cost Management: Manage and optimize labor costs to support customer/production needs while achieving monthly cost metrics.
  • Production Planning: Plan and expediting production to achieve 100% service while working closely with distribution and customer service on all service interruptions.
  • Customer Complaint Resolution: Investigate and resolve customer complaints to root cause.
  • Staffing and Training: Determine staffing requirements, interview, hire, and train new employees, or oversee those personnel processes.
  • Best Practices: Exchange and share best practices with all departments.
  • Departmental Budgeting: Establish, plan, and monitor departmental budgets, plans, and forecasts.
  • Teamwork and Development: Encourage and develop a teamwork atmosphere among all employees, shifts, and departments.
  • Training Needs: Recognize and address all training needs through scheduled and documented training plans.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with EHS, Marketing, Quality, HR, and Maintenance on all new products, processes, and work cells.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, Polymers, or similar discipline.
  • Experience: 10+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Leadership and Vision: Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives.
  • Safety, Quality, and Efficiency: Demonstrated ability to improve safety, quality, and efficiency standards while reducing overall cost.
  • Budget Development and Oversight: Budget development and oversight experience.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Strong experience and success in lean manufacturing concepts and implementation, continuous improvement initiatives, and driving positive change.
  • Leadership Skills: Leadership skills to enable the development of teamwork among shifts and departments. Ability to work in cross-functional teams with strong human relationship building skills.
  • Technical Acumen: Excellent computer skills and technical acumen that includes MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and ability to learn new technologies easily.
  • Time Management and Organization: Strong time management skills and great organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Energy and Attitude: High energy and positive attitude and demeanor.
  • Communication Skills: Good knowledge and execution of all Basic Principles/Core Values and communication skills.
  • Bilingual Communication: Bilingual communication skills is a plus.
  • Manufacturing Experience: Experience in manufacturing building products specifically with siding is a plus.
