About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Houston Community College (HCC) team as an Instructional Support Specialist. As a key member of our academic support team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth delivery of distance education courses. Your primary responsibility will be to support faculty in the delivery of these courses, providing administrative and technical assistance as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage student databases and create, maintain, and edit databases for testing and promotional mailings

• Assist full-time and adjunct faculty with online testing, preparing and distributing student tests, and scheduling instructors for test proctoring

• Publish online exams and schedule proctored or practice/self-assessment exams

• Proctor exams as necessary, grade and record lab skills, quizzes, and exams

• Process and distribute instructional newsletters and grade notifications

• Process videotape distribution and returns, distribute and collect SEOI forms, and duplicate instructional materials

• Screen visitors, answer phone calls, sort and distribute faxes and mail, and assist with the help desk

• Manage student queries, refer and schedule students for regular and make-up orientations, and operate various instructional office equipment

• Handle sensitive information in a professional and confidential manner, file all correspondence, and maintain and protect applicant files, student testing and grading files, and personal timesheets

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a high school diploma or equivalent, with an associate's degree or higher preferred. You will also need to have at least two years of general office experience, with three years preferred. Additionally, you will need to possess proficiency in basic computer skills, such as word processing and spreadsheet applications, and be able to maintain laboratory equipment. You will also need to be able to adapt to lab policy and procedural changes, have good written, oral communication, and organizational skills, and be able to generate statistical analyses reports of student performance. You will also need to have a basic understanding of test performance indices and be able to work well in a fast-paced environment with a diverse student population. You will also need to have good customer service skills over the phone and be able to troubleshoot and analyze technical issues. Finally, you will need to have a basic knowledge of the CANVAS learning management system and be able to work in different shifts.
