Position Overview
The Senior Counsel will collaborate closely with the VP of Legal to oversee global compliance and litigation processes, ensuring that all stakeholders are effectively managing their responsibilities across various regions. A key aspect of this role involves the substantial drafting, evaluation, and adjustment of contracts and agreements. Additionally, the Senior Counsel will offer comprehensive legal guidance to the Elevate Outdoor Collective team and support corporate compliance efforts, particularly in the area of product risk management.
The ideal candidate should possess a curious mindset, be eager to tackle new challenges, and have a passion for consumer product innovation and production.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in tandem with Elevate Outdoor Collective personnel to gain a deep understanding of the company's technology and operations, providing pragmatic legal counsel that balances legal obligations with business objectives on a global scale.
- Offer strategic insights to leaders within the Legal Department and senior management across other divisions regarding product compliance, litigation strategies, and sustainability initiatives.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide array of agreements related to business and commercial interests.
- Lead initiatives focused on compliance and sustainability, managing project teams as necessary to ensure proper oversight.
- Create and maintain a repository of standardized agreements and contract templates for essential documents.
- Oversee risk management practices for the organization, including the management of insurance renewals and related matters.
- Design and deliver in-house training sessions for a diverse group of stakeholders worldwide.
- Manage and supervise external legal counsel engaged in company litigation cases.
- Conduct legal and regulatory research as required, utilizing both internal and external resources.
- Be available for meetings scheduled outside of standard business hours as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or an equivalent international degree, with completion of legal apprenticeship.
- Active membership in WSBA or ability to meet admission criteria in the relevant jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in transactional and/or litigation roles, either in-house or at a national or international law firm.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a strong inclination for collaboration.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills and sound business acumen.
- High proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Strong attention to detail, even amidst competing priorities.
- Comfortable in a dynamic environment with a proactive approach to ambiguity.
- Outstanding organizational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple competing tasks.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience at a national or international law firm or in-house at a manufacturing or consumer products company.
- Knowledge of global consumer product laws and regulations (e.g., CPSIA, FTC Act, CSRD).
- Experience with products liability litigation and its management.
- Experience in supporting and implementing legal operations tools and processes, with a demonstrated ability to learn new systems and develop iterative processes.
- Project management skills and familiarity with best practices in project management.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand in front of a computer for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of 5-20 pounds may be required.
Salary Range
This is a salaried position with Elevate Outdoor Collective. The typical pay range for this role is $130,000-$150,000 annually. The anticipated base salary range for this position is noted above; however, the base pay offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
